Mavericks Captains

2011 - Kevin Connell -

2010 - Joe Jackson -

2009 - Justin Gullickson -
Joe Jackson started his career with the Upstate Mavericks when he was 15 years old and has been a major factor in the success of the program.

Currently ranked as the top catcher in the state of South Carolina, Joe possess all the atributes you could ask for in a Captain.  His on and off field leadership is second to none.  Joe's knowledge for the game and his competitiveness shows everytime he steps on the field.

Coach Nall on Jackson:

"Joe has been a loyal member of the Mavericks program since we started in 2007.  He has become more than just a player; he is our coach on the field.  There are countless times that Joe knows what I am going to say, long before I say it.  He has the ability to take control of a game and demands the best out of his teammates."

Jackson will graduate in June of 2010 and has committed to play baseball at The Citadel.

In June of 2010, Joe was drafted by the Kansas City Royals.
Justin Gullickson began his career with the Upstate Mavericks in the summer of 2008 and made an immediate impact.

Gullickson's competitiveness and desire to win pushed his teammates to a new level.  He is the type of guy you dont have to ask to give him your all, he already is.

Coach Nall on Gullickson:

"Gully is a born leader and wouldnt accept anything less than the best from his teammates.  He is also one of the toughest guys I have ever coached.  I remember times when he was sick or hurt and would get so mad if you took him out of a game.

I remember one time, he was at a showcase and was hit in the head by a 90 mph pitch and it knocked him out for a few seconds.  As soon as he was able to stand back up, he got back in the box and wanted to hit.  Everyone tried to talk him out of it but he was determined to do it.  He proceeded to hit a homerun on the next pitch!!!"

Justin graduated in June of 2009 and is now playing baseball at Gardner Webb University.
Kevin began playing with the Mavericks last summer and made an immediate impact on the whole organization.  Not only is he one of the top pitchers in TN, he is one of the top pitchers in the nation.  His impact on our team wasn't just felt on the mound but in the dugout.  He has endless supply of energy that motivates and is very contagious.  Our team energy and level of intensity is unmatched when he is on the mound or in the dugout.  He is very competitive and makes everyone around him better.

Coach Nall on Kevin....

"Kevin is a coaches dream.  His love for the game and intensity makes everyone, including the coaches, better.  He has played on two teams (our 17s and 18s) the last two seasons and would play more if he could.  I have learned as much if not more from Kevin than I have from anyone in my baseball career.  Its an honor to call Kevin our 2011 Captain!!!"

Kevin will graduate in June 2011 and has committed to play baseball for The Citadel.
